Wix to WordPress Migration What Transfers and What Needs Rebuilding
Separate content transfer from layout and feature rebuilding when planning a Wix-to-WordPress migration for a business website.

A Wix-to-WordPress project is a platform rebuild with content-transfer work inside it. It is not the same as moving an existing WordPress installation to another server. The useful starting point is an inventory of pages and business functions, with a decision about how each will work in the replacement.
Separate the content from its presentation
Text, images and the design used to display them are different assets. Confirm which material the business owns and which originals are available. A screenshot is helpful for a design reference but does not replace the original image file, editable text or an accurate URL inventory.
Wix explains that its site implementation depends on its own infrastructure. Plan the WordPress layout as a rebuild rather than assuming a portable WordPress theme can be exported from the Wix editor.
Map features one by one
List forms, bookings, products, memberships, automations and connected marketing tools. Record the behavior customers need, not just the app name. A booking feature might involve calendar availability, confirmation messages and staff assignment that all need a replacement decision.
Mark each feature as retained externally, replaced with a suitable component, rebuilt separately or intentionally removed. Confirm licenses and provider fees before choosing an alternative. Do not promise every data type or app will transfer without inspecting it.
Decide what happens to URLs
Collect useful landing pages and their intended destinations. Preserve addresses where practical and map changed ones to relevant pages. Metadata, canonical URLs and internal links need checks alongside the visible body content.
Keep domain registration, website hosting and email responsibilities separate. The business may be able to retain its existing registrar while changing only the records needed for the new website.
Compare the staging build against the inventory
Review a service page, an article, a form and any agreed store or booking journey. Check mobile layouts, images, formatting and recipient delivery. The acceptance list should identify missing or changed behavior before launch.
Decide how new content, bookings or orders created during the rebuild will be handled. A test copy represents a point in time; the live business may continue changing while development is underway.
Launch with clear boundaries
Agree the cutover, recovery period and old-service cancellation checks. Keep source content and account access available until the replacement has been reviewed. Search discovery and ranking performance are separate from confirming a successful rebuild.
StartMyWeb's Wix migration service scopes the content, layouts, feature replacements and launch checks separately. Share your website and the features that matter; credentials can be discussed later through a private channel.
